All mammal females have a cycle, but most are nowhere near 28 days. It is a coincidence that the moon's cycle is about 29 days and the AVERAGE woman's cycle is 28 days. But the spread of the data is equal across each day of the moon's phases; in other words, 1/28 of women have a cycle starting on the new moon, 1/28 have cycle starting on day 2 of the moon, etc.

Howard is correct. Basically. In reality groups of women living together tend to have their cycles converge. But that has absolutely nothing to do with the moon. Probably pheromones.

The average duration of the menstrual cycle and the lunar cycle are both ~28 days, but there's nothing to the old wives' tale that they're related.
