What is the correct thing to say when you refer to a cambarus zophonastes.

I pronounce is as "crayfish."

Depends on what part of the country your in. Down south it's crawdads or crawfish. In the northern and new england states it's crayfish. Same animal just different diction.

If it's swimming in a stream, it's a crayfish. If it's on your plate, ready to be devoured, it's a crawfish.

I've always said 'crayfish' but I grew up in CT. I suppose it depends on where you are from.
