Do it from home. Its his computer, his internet access and your time is his since he is paying you for it. If you are using any of the three in a manner he doesn't want he can fire you "for cause". I think your messages can wait a few hours.

Use an web proxy if you really want to,
search google for 'free web proxy' and then use one of the sites that come up.
Pretty much what you do is go to the web proxy site, type in the address of the site you want to go to, and then you get routed through the proxy to the site, and the site is played back to you through the web proxy... Your employer is still going to see that you have been on the internet, but it will only say www.anonumous.com or whatever...
Probably want to think about why they are dont want you using myspace etc.. and a web proxy is going to look pretty suspicious to someone that actually has some IT knowledge.
Feel free to give it a crack though :) whats the worst that can happen, you'll only get fired :)

Not that I have heard of.
I am sure the manager went to the trouble of getting a program like that to make sure that no one does what you are planning to do. I am also sure that if he finds out you are doing an attempted work-around (or a failed sneak-around) your job would be in jeopardy and you would certainly hear from him.
If you just wanted to check email you could ask him if it was alright to do that during lunch hour. Checking myspace is something that it probably would not even pay to ask about.

Yes, but it will cost you money, usually a subscription on a monthly basis to a proxy server provider with an encrypted connection. It works like this:
You buy a subscription from the proxy server provider and they give you 2 things: encryption software and a web address. All your traffic goes to their server, so your employer sees only one harmless address, and everything else you type including the servers you want to surf is encrypted. .
Expect to pay about 10 to 20$/month. Some are free but not very secure. In all cases, beware of your work PC/laptop. Companies are installing keystroke monitors and can be logging everything you type. Nothing can help you there.

No. I would just wait until you get home to check your myspace messages.

Try googling a surf anonymously website. Not sure if that will be the solution.

No. Save your play time for at home. They have the right to monitor use of their computers. Is it worth getting fired over ? No message can't wait a few hours.

It depends how he checks.
Does he log what you type into the address bar or does he check the server to see which pages have been requested?

No, it's amazing that people can't even work without being occupied with Myspace.
