Yes yes yes I remember that fact is my next door neighbor used to let his dog go on our lawn and I used to get mad and when I mowed the lawn the white lumps used to hit his aluminum sided home would make a banging sound and he said hey your mower is throwing rocks over this way... I told him to take another look.. After while the white pooped stopped.. But yes I remember white dog do do..

Must be because people clean it up quicker then they did in the past. Left out long enough it still turns white. Take a walk in an open un cared for field and you'll find it.
Edit:
I am amazed at how many people answered this question! As an adult I think we spend less time exploring undeveloped areas so we miss out on seeing white dog poop.

Sarah silverman has some funny stuff. I don't know where the white dog poop from the seventies has gone! Don't ask Mini Coffee.

The dietary elements of dog food has changed. It would turn white because of calcium left behind. Dog food has changed over the years and we rarely see this now.

lol..
thats funny..
it still turns white.. you just have to leave it trhere long enough..
im guessing that the reason you never see it any linger is that everywhere has got so big on pick up after your dog..
so there is not any poop that sits long enough to get white

I remember that as well. I think it's because people scoop the poop quicker these days instead of letting it turn into iron.

You probably don't see it anymore, because now people are forced to cleaning up their dog's poop---you can't just let them go and walk away, someone (whether a groundsman or you) has so scoop it up.

It still turns white if left to decompose at its natural rate. But now everybody is supposed to pick it up and throw it in the trash so you don't see it very often.
