So I live in Vallejo Ca and I want to take my girlfriend on a weekend getaway for her birthday...preferably at least a couple hours away. So does anybody have any suggestions or website I can check out?

I've checked out Big Sur and I really want to go there but I want to stay someplace nice and ALL of the nice places seem to want like $1000/night but a lot of the cheaper places kind of sound rundown and not romantic.

Go to Big Sur. That's probably about 4 hours south of Vallejo. One of the most beautiful places on Earth. Or maybe Lake Tahoe.

Since Napa is too close to you, I'd recommend Monterey or Santa Cruz. There's lots to see and do in Monterrey any time of year, like the fabulous Monterey Aquarium, and lots of great restaurants. For her birthday dinner, I would recommend what I think is one of the world's great restaurants, the Sardine Factory (horrible name, fabulous food and sensational ambiance, service, and wine list). If you go there, request seating in the CONSERVATORY. While on trips to San Francisco, I've driven from SF to Monterry in the past just to eat there.
There is not as much to see or do in Santa Cruz in the off season, but it's a bit closer than Monterey, and I'd also highly recommend the Chamiande Resort there. It's a really nice hotel resort up in the hills above Santa Cruz, and on weekends they have a fabulous buffet in the dining room. They have tennis, swimming pools, jacuzi, badmitton, vollyball, hiking, etc. In the 1990s my daughter attended UC Santa Cruz and my wife and I would stay at the Chamiande when we'd go up to visit her. We were never disappointed in the accomodations, food, etc. there.

Since you're fairly close to it, how about Sausalito? They have lots of bed & breakfast places with a view of the city. My wife and I stayed in one called the Gables Inn for our anniversary a few years ago. It was on the second floor of this old country-style house, with a jacuzzi bath tub, fire place, and balcony that had a good unobstructed view of the city (from the Bay Bridge to about Ghirardelli Square).
We took the ferry over from San Francisco. The boat ride over is kinda cold (we went in November). But, it's pretty cool to know that you're arriving at your destination by boat. Just make sure you don't have too much to lug around - or at least use suitcases with wheels. Or, just drive over to Sausalito from Vallejo.

Definitely Big Sur. There are some parks up there to hang out around and the most beautiful coast on earth.
