Because rule #1 in politics is to kiss up to the seniors. They actually vote.

People who have not read the Schip bill yet claim to know all about it seem rather foolish when they try and discuss it on line. Here is a fact check from a neutral organization that examines bills and candidates and so it can be trusted to give us an accurate assessment of Schip.

Medicare is a promise we made to Seniors long ago. Bush tried to make good on that promise because since Medicare was enacted, Prescription drugs have taken much more of a central role in overall healthcare. The SCHIP program creates an entirely new entitlement . . . once you start it, it is very difficult to stop. The argument is over 10 million kids, most of which already have access to government funds for healthcare . . . their parents are just too lazy to sign them up. This entire SCHIP thing is simply a political tactic by the dems.
No comparison between Medicare D and SCHIP.

Taxpayers pay medicare and social security as part of their payroll taxes. They should get to spend the money that's there. As far as SChip goes, we are paying for people who don't necessarily pay taxes to have health insurance, which I think is a huge no-no.

Not only have they paid into it their entire lives, you're talking about people of and beyond retirement age that are on fixed incomes and in most cases do not have the ability to work. There is no comparison.

of course they would support seniors. most of those opposing SCHIP are either already seniors or will be soon, so, in other words, they support themselves on the issue, but support the government taking care of them and not others.

Because seniors have paid into the medicare program all of their working lives. It's their own money that they are finally getting back when they retire ( and part D is not free).

I don't. I support, letting the people keep their money, manage their own money and keep the government out of it. I disagree with Social Security too. Now these old people have paid into both medicaid and social security so not much we can do about that, but we need to stop both programs and have people manage their own money instead of the inept government.

It's a different thing, as seniors have paid into the Medicare fund and they are entitled to those benefits because it is essentially their own money.

I don't support the Medicare prescription drug entitlement. And I don't support the SCHIP expansion for a plethora of reasons only one of which is the income requirements.
