What personal qualities do you think are needed to be a successful President? Are the qualities needed in peace time the same as in war time?

It depends on your definition of "success" - some people define success as "popular with the public" while others define it as "effective in dealing with situations."

My definition of success in politics has less to do with popularity and more to do with effectiveness. A President needs to have vision, to be strong and willing to make hard decisions even if they are not popular decisions. They need to be willing to take criticism and still do what they think is best for the country. They should keep their promises and preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
