What protection would you install to prevent burning embers blown by the wind from hitting the house?

In addition to a 100 foot buffer area around my house, I would want the exterior surfaces to be made of cement, concrete or steel.

The roof would be my first priority and I would use cement tiles that are made specifically for use on roofs.

When living in an area that is a wooded area, I would be more concerned about trees that could fall on my home. Fire is a large concern, but nobody ever will hear the tree that crushed your house. As far as fire concern, concrete products will do great wonders and allow you and your family to get to safety faster. Maybe you should clear cut any trees that could fall on your house and kill two birds with one stone, which would eliminate most hazards that you are concerned with.

Even when living off the land, one must build one's house of bricks. We wouldn't want someone huffing and puffing and blowing one's house in, now would we??

As a security precaution, I also recommend bars on all doors and windows...so the bears and other friendly, hungry animals can't easily get in.

i would look at a "buffer" zone around the house that is absent of trees and full of evergreen grasses and bushes, as they burn slower, some wont burn at all.
