We could, but there are other sources out there that would do a much better job of it. Try a Google search, or better yet just go to your local library and grab Eliot Asinof's amazing book, Eight Men Out.

There is alot of literture on it, the best book being "Eight Men Out", which is also a movie, and a pretty good one. Basically The Chisox owner Charley Cominsky was very miserly and underpaid his players,,,Gamblers got to one in particular Chick Gardil, and he in turn got several more to lose the series, mainly Eddie Cicotte, Lefty Williams, a few others, and Joe Jackson. after a couple of games where only afew players got money, and there were no more coming, did the Sox start playing to win but then they were in a 2-0 hole to the Cincinatti Reds in a best 5 of 9 series and lost 5-3. There was suspicions going into the 1920 season but it only broke during the 1920 season when the White Sox was in a 3 way race with the Indians and Yankees, and in a great trivia question...they were the first team to have 4 20 game winners that year. But when brought to trial, it was thrown out because the evidence disappeared, but newly appointed comissioner Kenesaw Landis make no book by it and suspended the 8 players indited out of baseball for life. There is n no proof that Buck Weaver ever particapated in the betting , though it was likely that he knew about it. Overall there were 8 suspended for life. thats it in a nutshell

In a nutshell, White Sox owner Charles Comiskey was pretty tight with his money. Eight players conspired with gamblers to throw the Series for money. The book and movie "Eight Men Out" are excellent sources of information.
