They tend not to be taken seriously.
When I was under 18 I was annoyed about this. Now that I have a couple of decades more life experience under my belt I myself do not take kids seriously.

No one should be taken seriously until they earn it - whether they are under 18 or over 18. Unfortunately, people under 18 generally don't have the mental capacity (due to AGE and DEVELOPMENT) or the "time under their belt" to do what should be done to be taken seriously. People under 18 are at a serious disadvantage when it comes to being taken serious - and rightfully, most people under 18 can't be taken seriously when it comes to adult matters.
It takes time and experience to earn a respected place in society and be taken seriously.
Of course, that doesn't mean that those under 18 aren't taken seriously on certain matters. They are taken seriously when it comes to commercialism and product development. They are taken seriously when they claim a crime has been committed against them. They are taken seriously when they are submitting applications to college, etc...

For what it's worth, there are people well over the age of 18 that I have trouble taking seriously too.

Most 16 year olds take them seriously..Adults have earned their wisdom and they were all 18 before and realize with age comes knowledge....insight ... and experience.so yeah we don't take you all seriously... You aren't really worried about this are you? Have you ever heard the saying " hire a teenager...while they still know everything"?

Ummm...not sure why they should be taken seriously (note proper use of English language)...most can't even type in English...nor do they have the experience to be taken seriously...with age comes wisdom...we were all kids at one time...you'll get your turn to make fun of youngsters eventually

No, they are not 'taken seriously' because they have yet to master the ability to express their thoughts in a clear and concise manner.
