This is SOOO true. I have learned to be comfortable saying vagina as an adult because of discussing sex with my sig other, and discussing everything about my body to my oncologist.
My mom however, and most of the adults in my family, think its like some dirty word or something. I was taught to call all genitialia 'down there' in a hushed whispered tone. My mom is STILL offended by the owrd vagina. I was having a problem with some abnormal bleeding and I was talking to her about it and I said 'vaginal bleeding'. She went through the roof.

While vagina may be the medically correct term, it is so cold and clinical. When discussing certain things with my friends, we say "poonie" but when talking to a doctor I do use the correct word. It's all a matter of personal choice and what you are comfortable with. There are worse things to call your respective body parts.

I call mine a vagina. I prefer to use the correct terms for anatomical features, instead of cutsie nicknames.

hahahaha, you believe everything you see on TV? Vagina is what it is and what I have ALWAYS called it. In my opinion any woman that is uncomfortable with calling it that is likely a dried up old spinster raised twit.
