I used to live in the nice cool climates of Maine and upstate New York which seem to be made for no reason other than growing apples. But now that I'm in South Carolina, can anyone tell me which varieties grow best here, and any little tips you might have about keeping the trees happy in the hot, hot sun? Temperatures here get up around 100F late in summer.

Check with your local Ag Extension Agent or Master Gardener program. The problem with your location isn't limited to the heat - apple trees need a cold winter to survive (they require a dormant season) and they pretty much aren't going to get that in SC.
