First, in an open forum, such as "Yahoo Answers", it is considered libelous to mention the name of the party you are considering suing, regardless of your reasons or validity of your claim. You could find yourself on the wrong end of a lawsuit (assuming this actually even happened, the hotel would have you on their registrar, and, probably, they will remember you, so they have your address, phone number, etc, etc, etc).
Second, keep in mind that virtually anyone on the planet is vulnerable to lawsuits, legitimate or otherwise. The hotel owner or manager, or whoever, has no idea who you are; for all he/she knows, you are a con artist, trying to bilk the hotel. If the event even actually happened, at the very least, the hotel owner should have given you something like a free night or free dinner, without accepting responsibility for the injury (if you were inside your own car, and accidentally banged your head on the "ceiling", would you sue the car manufacturer or just chalk it up to your own dumb luck or stupidity?). Even if he/she accepted responsibility for it, anything that came out of it - - vis-a-vis a free room, whatever - - would have been a contract between you and the hotel that the injury was recompensed, and, thus, you'd have no grounds for a suit. Of course, for all we (or even you) know, there were signs that said, "Slippery floor", but you failed to see them (believe it or not, even if it was in a different language, that would not excuse you from not knowing what it said!!!). I'm guessing that you got up, helped or otherwise, and walked away. What did you expect them to do? Fawn over you? Give you a million pesos? Kiss the boo-boo?
Third, you didn't mention whether you saw a legitimate doctor while you were in Cancun, much less whether you were hospitalized. Since you didn't say so, I'll assume that you did neither. If you had, and if x-rays showed a legitimate injury, then you *might* have a leg to stand on (pardon the pun), but, virtually any lawyer would tell you that it still isn't proof that you sustained the injury due to the fall! (true, a forensics specialist *might* be able to determine the date the injury was sustained, but even that can be discounted under cross-examination). If you saw a legitimate doctor in the US, there would be the question of whose X-ray it really belongs to, and, again, when was the injury sustained (some ne'er-do-wells have injured themselves to collect from a lawsuit, but most have been found to be fraudulent during the trial).
Fourth, any international lawsuit is going to cost tons of dineros, much less a ton of time, and, given the above, it isn't going to work in your favor, regardless of whether you were the first or the thousandth person to befall (again, sorry for the pun) such a fate, which was probably more embarrassing, at the time, than painful.
Fifth, any joint pain is going to hurt for a while. It'll heal. Get over it.

It sounds like you are describing Dreams Cancun! It is an awesome family friendly resort located in the hotel zone in Cancun. One of the best things about it is that it has a dolphin aquarium on site! This means that you and your kids can swim with dolphins right at the resort. They also have a great, supervised kids club for ages 3-12. The kids club really allows kids to have fun on their own. The resort also has other activities like tennis, snorkeling, a spa, windsurfing, hobie cats and kayaks. If you are interested in any excursions, the resort has a tour desk that can help you book some in the area. I hope you have a great vacation!

Yep, you can sue in Cancun. However, you need a brief dose of realism.
First off, if you are going to sue them, you'll have to go back there to tell your story.
Secondly, while in the US you might be able to get money for slipping on someone's floor, it's just not likely in Mexico.
Thirdly, what the court will see is a rich American tourist suing a local business that employs lots of people because he is a klutz.
So, to wrap up, you can sue, but you'll lose. And, it'll cost you a lot of time and money to lose.

You can go to Cancun and sue them there. But Mexican law isn't as personal-injury friendly as US law, and the legal system is very slow. The judge will probably laugh at you. Only in the US do such ridiculous lawsuits get money.

What are your damages?
If it's just a little pain get over it. If you required medical attention is your insurance paying for it? If so they can help with your claim.
Accidents happen. You don't need to blame others every time something happens.
