One cannot answer this question, because 'leftist' isn't a defined term.

Do you mean 'left-wing' or 'socialist'?

In politics, 'left-wing' is associated, with very different political movements that follow one of the 4 less or more SOCIALIST ideologies: green, social-democratic, communist, anarchist.

In discussions, use SOCIALISM always with one of this 4 adjectives, please! So you might avoid confusions.

The FARC in Colombia and the Cuban gov. Hugo Chavez's party gets honorable mention. I think the sendora luminosa in Peru is no more, hopefully they're not.
