You have to go. It's one of the most extravagant buildings I've ever seen. Apart from visiting foreign royalty, it's the closest thing to a palace we have.
The grounds are amazing, too. They used to have animals from every continent. I don't know if they keep them alive since probably some of them can't breed. The gardens are amazing, too. Lots of amazing statues and other art.
You should go. There are several tours. If you only have time for one, I think there is one that takes you through some of the best parts of the castle and the garden. There are also more garden/castle-specific tours if you are more interested in one or the other.

Absolutely. Totally worth the vist. I really love their tour number four which is more of a garden tour, and visit the outer homes. It is great to visit in april or in the fall when there isn't as much fog and it is nice and warm.
If you have been to Winchester Mystery House in SJ, it is kinda similar in terms of its oddity. Hearst Castle is still unfinished to this day.

Absolutely! I live in CA, and go every time I am in the area. You have to make reservations now and there are several tours scheduled throughout the day. It is absolutely fascinating and you learn a lot about Hearst and his architect. The views are spectacular, the home is stunning, the pools and guests houses are worth seeing as well.

Yes! Its a great stop-off point if you will be traveling between San Francisco and LA. Theres not much else in San Simeon, but you can go 10 miles south to Cambria (I actually grew up there) and theres tons of shops and cute places to check out.

Yes, I went years ago. Its so big that there that there are different tours you take because if you took them all you would be there all day. Its interesting.
Another tour that I think is more interesting is the Winchester house tour. Its in San Jose . Thats in 2 parts and I suggest taking both parts in that one.
