san diego is a raltively safe city, i mean even the bad parts arent really that bad.
Its hard for me to recommend medical schools, SDSU, UCSD, SDSU are all decent schools.
You say you can afford a condo, but "I an afford" means different things to different people. What do you HONESTLY think you can afford for housing (rent+utilities?)
If you say 1200 a month your in good shape, if you say more your in real good shape, if you say 900 or less, you might wanna think of room mates.
Areas i would consider are College Area, Clairmont Mesa, Hilcrest.
Why don't you add details.
Tell us how much you can spend a month. Also tell us what type of life style you are coming from as well as what kind of life style you want to go into. Do you want to live in a beach community,? do you live in a mountain community, and would like to feel at home? Also say how far you are willing to drive. San Diegos kind of big, 30 minute drives to get to school are very common.
Well, id have to recommend Either Pacific beach or Ocean Beach area. Pacific beach is a good young area. Lots of night clubs and bars. I think its about 30 minutes from school. Only hang up is i hear that parking can be bad, at least on weekends. I'd recommend living near the beach, something like 2 miles or 3 miles from it. People will be less prone to take all the street parking. That way you can walk to the beach or bike or rollerskate at least on weekends. On weekdays when its not so busy, you can drive and get close parking.
As far as price id pay no more than 800 or 900 for your half of the rent. Thats if your splitting the rent with one person. Add another 100 for utilities.
make sure where ever you move you ask about assigned parking. It may not be available, but even if there was 1 assigned it would help tremendously. Also asked if its gated or open. If you have an upstairs corner unit, it might be tons safer. If its you and another girl. Get good locks.
Also if this is your first time moving out on your own, when you move in, get a copy of your lease. I've heard bad stories.
Also get a "move-in inspection" Its just something in writing stating the condition of the place. Note specifically condition of the carpet, if its new or just cleaned. if it was just cleaned, note how old it is. Same with paint. Mostly note anything that they might try to charge you for when you move out. Keep a copy of that somewhere safe, so even if they lose it, you have it. Worst case scenario, i'm an apartment manager. i always have openings, im just on the east end of san diego, away from the beach. :-(

Although it's possible to get into med school as a graduate of SDSU I think if you are serious about becoming a MD the school you need to get into in San Diego is UCSD. They are very selective and I think their incoming freshman class high school gpa is over 4.0 (because of ap classes). So start studying. Other good choice is private catholic college USD. Where you live might depend which school you go to but beach areas are very nice.
