No, congress couldnt get reelected if they served the public good. Congress protects the fortunes of the elite. For example, there is overwhelming suport by the public to find alternative fuel. Gas prices are crazy and continue to increase. The middle east is a troubling area and are economy right now is dependent upon oil supply. Well, the American automotive and oil (many oil owners invest in car industry so they are like one) industries are huge and powerful. They want things to remain the same bc they have a considerable investment on keeping things as they are know. When congressmen/women try to pass laws that would make auto companys make more fuel efficient cars, the oil and car industy owners will donate money to other peoples election so that they are not reelected. So, no one wants to go up against them bc they would be targeted for reelection. Sometimes congress members will accept campaign donations from special interest groups like oil industry (they allow them to buy them). Another great example would be the gun industry or big tobacco.
Though, I would say that Congress was created to serve the public good. Constitutionally they were ideally suppose to be the branch to represent the people.

Congress continually votes to raise spending. They also havent declared War since WW2. The Iraqi War Resolution is Unconstitutional. They are the body responsible for deciding if we go to war or not and to have a resolution granting this right to the executivr branch screws up are system of checks and balances.
They are also boought and paid for by Various Big Businesses and special Intrest Groups.
They voted to Allow infringements on our Civil Liberties by voting to pass The Patriot Act which among a host of other things allow Sneak and Peak searches which allows The Police to enter search and leave your property without informing you and they do not have to have a warrant until 48 hours AFTER they do the search.
This is one of the many reasons I am Voting for the Republican Rep. From Texas running for the Nomination
He has a very consistent Voting record and his Social Security For Americans Only Act just make sense

I wish it were so but no, there is too much lip service and no action. They will only challenge each others party verbally and will not lawfully take the appropriate actions. This only leads me to believe that it is a scripted front to insure job security as a "Career Politician" and not the welfare of our citizens. If the entire crew were replaced over next coming elections maybe they would realize we want action for Americans and not a stage show.

What's in your wallet?- Capital One credit card slogan.
zippo and loads of credit ...
Nope. They serve the lobbyist, big business and themselves. Evidently, now they serve children on Friday's during November. That's good to know. As if they deserve time off/out for good behaviour. The scathing report card from President Bush meant nothing. They do nothin but campaign & complain. Bully to that noise !

Congress is only concerned with there own good. Free trips, great medical care, retirement plans, junkets, under the table cash payments and limited working hours. Peace

Are you joking!!!!!
Obama , Hillary, , etc are senators. They have jobs to do in Washington! instead, they're out campaigning and politicking.
To me, this is being more concerned with the next election that being concerned with the next generation.
Dante, in the book, "The divine comedy' had it right when he had the lowest level of hell reserved for the traitors, lawyers and politicians.

But the best thing they have done for us lately is when they DON'T pass legislation.
