My (uneducated) guess is crystal meth. It can kill you the first time you use it. It can damage your health even if you stop after a few years. It's cheap and easy to make, easy to buy. You could make a lab in your garage with common household items. Nasty stuff.
Alcohol is harmless for many people, because they don't get addicted and it doesn't turn them into psychos. Many people are too smart to drive when drunk (not enough, however). Tobacco is a huge problem but it affects mostly the user, and doesn't drive people to homicide or armed robbery. I don't know much about pot - it's not like it used to be when I was a kid (and I didn't know much about it then, either).
Pharmaceutical drugs can save lives; they can also take them. I am furious at the drug companies because they're spending millions on advertising and WE absorb the cost when we buy the drugs. They're so cheap to make. Don't let them tell you that all that money goes to "research" - it's mostly advertising. A 60-minute spot during prime time must cost 6 or seven figures each time they air it. And there are so many natural ways to treat these same diseases that they're not researching. A little fish oil or a few fruits could treat some of these problems just as effectively without the side effects (and death can be one of the side effects).
If I had it my way, all drugs would be legalized, and controlled by the government. This would weaken drug cartels and smuggling rings. It would take the wind out of crime syndicates, who thrive on drug trade. Fewer gangland wars. No more ignorant, desperate "mules" getting poisoned by swallowing drugs and smuggling them into the U.S. It would bring revenue to the government, because unlicensed drug peddlers would be fined, not jailed. The drugs themselves would be safer. People would be less afraid to admit their problems, because they would be sent to rehab, not jail.

I think it's Meth and Opium being grown by terrorists to fund their terrorist organization to make the most potent form of heroin known to man!
And my son has ADHD.. I don't think it is over prescribed. I would do anything for my son not to have to take drugs...but if he didn't he wouldn't even be able to get started on his school work. My mother in law tried to argue that one with me and I left him there with her for the afternoon...she changed her attitude after a few hours!

I think the biggest issue IS drugs...period. We Americans take a pill for everything. They even have one for restless leg syndrome now. Rediculous.
The ONLY pills I take are multi vitamins and the occational asprin. That's it. But now Americans are advertised medications like they were candy and making selfish companies billions.

Its the pharmaceuticals. They sell them on TV and if you want to fix something you risk "screwing up" several other things. And it's legal!
