Will this decision likely drive Mattingly away from the Yankees? Or are do you think he will likely stay on as bench coach?

Mattingly didn't have any mangerial experience plus he was sort of Joe Torres unspoken hand picked replacement. Torre goes so Mattingly will now go.

No, Mattingly has already said he is not returning.. I guess his selfishness as a player has followd him to coaching..

I dont know why people are so high on him.. He did NOTHING for the Yankees as a player.. they made the playoffs one year he was there. And what happens the year after he retires, they win the whole thing. hahahahah

It has already been reported that he will not stay with the Yankees as a coach... the Yanks should have selected Mattingly...
But Joe is a class guy... too bad he has to be with the '80 Yankees... oops I mean the '08 Yankees...

I hope it alienates him. The Yankees need to break with the past and move foreward. If I'm not mistaken they've never won anything as long as he's been involved with the team...as player or coach. Let Girardi select his own team of coaches.

Yeah...It will alienate him...unless they are going to move him into an executive, front office type role...which they should do if they expect him to be loyal to the Yankees...

Hopefully it does, since he is not qualified to manage a WalMart, much less the Yankees. Good Bye.
