We are planning to go to Egypt and Jordan in Jan or Feb 2007, including a Nile cruise. We have heard stories of dodgy hotels, and boats where it is common to get food poisoning.

Has anyone travelled with "Egypt uncovered". They seem quite good from what we have seen on their internet site

Sistablu - I am living in Switzerland at the moment, and the local travel agencies here don't speak English. This is why I want to book on the internet. Also I can't find other tours which do Egypt, nile cruise and Jordan all in one package. Could you recommend a good online tour operator? Thank you

I will be honest and say that if I were you,I would book with a tour company through your local agent. The lovely pics and glowing terms mean nothing you may find head office is one room up 5 flights of stairs somewhere in Downtown Cairo.
They may be okay but,it is impossible to tell the difference from a web site.
Their glowing testimonials actually made me a little sus' as if you notice they are all from the same date!
The difficulty is there are thousands of tour companies here and new ones opening everyday.
So I really suggest be safe and book with a company that is associated with a good travel agent in your home country. You will find there will be little if any, difference in the price or itinerary. As all tours and cruises take the same basic route and go to the same sights.
I query as to whether that company has University trained Egyptologists as a normal tour company could not afford our fees except to show you around a particular temple or the Giza complex as some companies do.
It is far better to err on the side of caution and know you will have a quality holiday that gives you what it promises..

I have been to Egypt several times to Luxor but have never done a cruise If you use common sense and do not drink the water only bottled water which is very cheap and be wary of food washed in local water eg salads and I avoid the meat as when I go it is usually 90 degrees upwards and if you remember that ice cold water on a warm stomach is not a good combination you should be fine also in Jan/Feb it is not very warm
