Sure - look at Thoreau!
And plenty of religious orders, Christian and otherwise, concentrate on removing themselves from the world and devoting themselves only to their deity.

Technically, maybe, temporarily. Long term, I don't think so.
Functionally, our energy fields overlap all the time; one person's feeling is shared with another. If one were say, meditating in the bedroom alone, who else would be consciously aware at that moment? Perhaps no one - but the space around the meditator becomes calm, she arises and walks into the world with a calm mind , calm body, calm feeling, & that gets shared, people feel it, and this can help them feel happy. People sometimes smile sincerely at one another, and can for a moment, feel happier from it. People can do generous, kind things from a place of happiness in themselves, and others respond in kind.
It's a good question. I fall on the side of the functionality. The field carries information and we are all in it.

I believe that ultimately making someone else happy is the only way to make yourself happy.
Think about what makes you unhappy... Your job, your home, your friends, and so on. This has to do with your surroundings. If your surroundings are happy and in good shape, don't you think that will create positive energy in which you can be happy as well?
You can always tell yourself that you're happy and emotionally secure, but to give love and joy selflessly is the ultimate prize of living. If you don't care for anyone, but yourself, then what's the point of you being here. An isolated, insignificant human being.

Do you mean "deliberately" not make someone else happy? What is your motivation? Honestly, how do we always know when we make someone else happy if they do not tell us? Yes, you can make yourself happy without making others happy, but again, how would you know for certain?

Technically yes, but in practicality no. YOu don't specifically have to make someone else happy to be happy yourself, but you do have to have love, which means someone else has love, which inclines them toward happiness and in fact if they don't move in that direction then they lose the love. So indirectly, no, you can't be happy without making someone else happy. But it's a strange and convoluted route.

co-dependent people are just that way. they need to satisfy someone to feel satisfied. a person can generally be happy without making someone else happy but that usually only works if they live by themselves.

You have to be happy with yourself and about yourself before you can make anyone truly happy.
Liking, loving, whatever yourself is a fundamental that makes life worth living.
Do things by yourself to rediscover things you may have forgotten you enjoy. Do things for yourself. Everyone needs to take care of themselves as no one takes care of you like you.
Do something for you, only you know what you want and need.
It doesn't have to big and drawn out. Pat yourself on the back for just realizing you need some "you" time. Everyone needs it although they don't always get it!!

if there is one, then that should not be. Ifone becomes happy then it shall make others too happy, and if one looks for happpiness without making others happy, then that is a futile search. Real happiness is like light lamp, the light must illuminate other things.

In my opinion, it's no one's job in life to make someone else happy. It's unfair and selfish for someone to expect you to make them happy.
Make yourself happy, and surround yourself with people who don't need YOU to make them happy.
