What's so "wacko" about wanting to enforce the law?

Realitycheck, I am hereby taking you off my list of contacts. I thought you were a reasonable conservative, but after seeing the last several questions that you've asked in the last 24 hours, I think now that you are just an embarrassing demagogue.

The envirowackos are just a convenient excuse. The truth is that the oil producers have no interest in building more refineries. Just last spring the CEO of Chevron said that with ethanol being pushed to replace dino oil there was no incentive to build more refineries. In congressional testimony ExxonMobil's CEO said that the margins on gasoline were such that is was more profitable to keep supply lower and prices high.

Where I grew up, we lived less than a mile from a refinery. My family was there first, the refiney came along later. Some dingdong started a brush fire, & we had to evacuate the schools, & houses within several miles. "Environmentalist wackos" That is good...who don't you go live where I did, in the country, a bit rural, although more built up now, & see what it is like?? Oil spills, a tanker blew up on the river several miles downstream from us there, at another refinery. Go talk to them, & see what that was like! We felt the shock wave from the explosion, & saw the fire high in the sky. To me, YOU are the wacko, not to be an environmentalist. They could take that money & upgrade what is there now, make it safer, although little can be done to make tank fields safe, & where you have one, you have the other....

Believe me, a company that posts multi-billion quarterly profits has nothing to fear from a environmentalist group which is probably on the verge of bankruptcy at any given time.

If the oil companies wanted to, they could build refineries all over Beverly Hills and there is nothing the residents could do about it.

However, by building numerous refineries, there would be a glut of gasoline and other refined fuels on the market and the price would drop.

Once the price dropped, so would the quarterly multi-billion net profits.

Yes, it's been over 30 years since a new refinery, nuclear power plant, or any other serious energy project has been completed. And, yes, it is the wacko environmentalist who are often at the forefront of stiffling such progress. I'm sure the majority of enviornmentalists aren't wackos, but the wacko ones do want humanity to exist 'in harmony' with nature - which basically means in the stone age.

Outcrop, why don't you ask the government to produce a new refinery! The government is making far more than each of the oil companies is in tax revenue.

The problem is, those of you who blame "big oil" don't want the government to lose their billions because that all ads up to more freebies for the citizens!

It's also hypocritical to keep protesting drilling on US soil when you aren't protesting about the drilling in other nations!

Hi Rush! Nice parroting, reminds me of a quote from Limbaugh;
"The next time somebody says you can't think for yourself, here's what you tell them ..."
Rush Limbaugh

While no MAJOR refineries have been built, many have expanded and increased production. Know what the biggest polluter in the US is;
yep refineries. Look what happened with BP in Texas. There are specific reasons these are challenged.

So instead of listening and parroting a windbag like Rush, why not instead use your brain and research the topic and discover the truth instead.

I agree the "not in my backyard" syndrome is a problem. Not only do we need more refineries but airports and power plants.

Its one of the reasons they haven't built a new refinery in the US in over 30 years.

Because newer refineries are always safer and pollute less than older refineries. Without the newer ones, all we have are the older ones which are a threat to the environment -- and those threats mean big money in fundraising to the environmental groups when something goes wrong.
