Jason H: You forgot the part where the founding fathers said that we were endowed by our Creator with those inalienable rights! I equate Creator with God.

I'd add Gays to that....I hear they don't have them in Iran and look what drab place it is without them.

Respectfully I must disagree, and let me explain why. The basis upon which I make this statement is the Declaration of Independence. What has made the United States of America great? The "unalienable rights... Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." The signers of the Declaration of Independence affirmed that individual rights was the most important thing for the new country. These individual rights brought about "God, guts, and guns" because people's rights were respected and upheld as the most important part of the new country.

Another thing, tied to individual rights, that has made the United States great is capitalism. I don't mean the socialist-capitalist economy we are in now, but true, unfettered capitalism.

I would suggest you read "The Virtue of Selfishness" and "Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal" by Ayn Rand for more information on a true capitalist economy and the idea of individual rights.

Disagree! Freedom is what made this country great. The pursuit of freedom. Guns? Um no. Though I am a believer in the right to own guns. Guts? Absolutely. God? I don't think God was behind the mass killing of the people already living here. And the slavery of many that helped build this nation.

I think our plethora of resources and ingenuity allowed our economy to flourish to the point it's at now....well our country was founded on Liberal and Jewish-Christian values so I guess God had something to do with it...I'm not sure guts or guns had much to do about anything except a couple of lost wars and a high murder rate
