Does God play a role in politics ? You bet , and in all arenas of politics , but let's discuss this arena , Yahoo Answers .

Sometimes people mistakenly believe that God wanted no role in politics because Jesus said ' Render unto Caesar that which is his' or words to that effect . But when He said that He was referring to taxes , not life or the way we live it .

Heck , it's quite obvious though that many have let their 'politics' override their belief and trust in God .
While at the same time there are vigilant Christians holding on to what they have left , and doing their best to awaken others from their slumber . They fear that if our people of our great nation don't awaken , then we'll all be left facing the wrath to come . They see that abortion is legal and can't quite figure how any 'Christian', left or right , can support Abortion while also claiming to be 'Christian' .

I think it's fair to ask -- Do you Honestly Believe That God Supports Abortion ?

UPDATE -- Please don't answer this question if that means you're gonna go on record and say that you honestly believe God would support Abortion , or that you think God is ambivalent about it . Cause He doesn't support it , nor is He ambivalent about it . I ask this of you because I don't want to be responsible for inviting you to sin .

I don't see how anyone can separate themselves from their beliefs when it comes to politics....our founding fathers didn't want us to create a state run religion...but they had NO intentions of outlawing religion from the public squares.....the words "separation of church and state" are NO WHERE...I repeat people...NO WHERE in the Constitution!!!!...that is part of the lie that satan has given ...and people are all too ready to run with it....instead of away from it....this nation had better wake up soon....God is a merciful God....we need to stop testing Him....and turn TO Him.....

I think both sides use religion, its just in the past few years the Republicans were better at it. But even in the beginning the Founding Fathers used their faith in a higher being and those teachings to develop the concepts of all men are created equal and democratic concepts that were not in place anywhere in the world.
Social Conservatives definitely are looking at the Republican candidates this year closely especially with front runner Rudi's views on abortion and gay marriage to name a few. And the religion of one candidate, Mitt Romney, also is a question mark to some social conservatives.
But Social liberals definitely look at issues of abortion, gay rights, war, etc as reasons to vote for or against candidates.

God has created, is running, and will destroy the Universe. God is the Origin and Destination of the Universe. God was, is, will be everywhere, God was never Created and will never die / be destroyed. God is beyond Life and Death. All religions of world teach human way to get close to God. You give your Best, God will give thy Best. Ask God for help and forgive, God will help and forgive you. Pray; Worship and Thank God for everything. Remember wherever there is Happiness in Life, there will be Sorrow. To get Happiness, you must master Sorrow. For Success in Life; Believe in Self and God, Learn from Past, Concentrate in Present, Plan for Future. Have control on, be the master of, not the slave of your body, senses, and mind. Purpose of this Life is to Gain and Share utmost Knowledge and Experience to differentiate and choose Right, Good, God against Wrong, Bad, Devil. Set your Desire level perfect or OK to be brave, no low to be coward, no high to be cruel. You have rights of Survival, Self Defence, and Freedom.

Many people share your mistaken belief that that scripture deals merely with taxes. In fact it deals with much more, namely the separation of church and state. That is a fundamental tenant of Christianity and when it is violated we have problems like the Inquisition and the Dark Ages, when the catholic church assumed political power and caused the wholesale slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Protestants, including most of the reformers. Of course Christians should oppose the extermination of babies, as most of them do, but the answer to that shameful problem lies in those who support abortion accepting Jesus Christ as their savior. That is what will change their minds about abortion, the homosexual lifestyle and other aspects of life that are strictly against the teachings of the Bible. Those who do not accept Jesus are the ones who will suffer the wrath of God. Those people who profess to be Christians while supporting abortion are probably not Christians at all.

I would hope that you might consider the possibility that God may not play a role in politics. I am a Deist. A good explanation of my religious beliefs can be found at wikipedia.
To answer you question, I think it might be presumptuous of us as mere humans to think we can understand God. Personally, I do not like the idea of a woman having an abortion, however, I will never condone laws that require a woman to term against her own better judgement. There are a lot of reasons (granted they are mere human reasons) for not outlawing abortion. Would you like a society that has young women having abortions in non-sterile environments performed by people that might not be medically trained to perform them? There's a darn good chance that abortions will not go away if we make them illegal. It is still a human issue. They will just go underground.
I'm sure you disagree, but it's good to discuss this. Thanks for reading a different point of view.

No, that is why I am pro-life despite being a Democrat. The problem I think most people have with God being involved in politics is the same problem they have with organized religion. People do not like being told how to live their lives by anyone. I believe in God, but I do not attend church because I am not into being judged and am far from perfect, so I would feel like a hypocrite if I drank and played poker during the week and then went to church on Sundays. I think people's relationship with God or lack thereof is their business and noone else's.

Some of these answers are scarier than anything Wes Craven could have ever come up with...

Of course God does not support abortion....that is an individual choice....a choice born of freewill...a choice that will have consequences...either remorse and repentance....or recalcitrant and retribution.

Of course as Christians, we can speak as to the meanings behind God's word...It is ludicrous to think He left us His word, with absolutely no ability to ascertain what He is telling us in that word. Different domination's aside, the basic tenet of our faith is without interpretation......thou shall not murder...not kill by the way...anyone with half a brain would not think you could't kill while protecting your life...or as in war...the lives of others....but thou shall not murder, is a pretty obvious statement. All sin, but one, are forgivable, with a mere honest repentance and petition for forgiveness. How many other times in life are we given as sweet a deal...

So many are purposefully obtuse when it comes to free will.....they don't want to be God's little puppet....but refuse to accept the concept that free will is given with parameters as to what is within God perfect rather than permissive will. If some one kills another, as free will allows....God gets blamed for not making a perfect world.....on the other hand....God sure better not tell anyone how to live their lives..they can do as they dang well chose.....hypocritical....?....of monumental proportions.
It is a simple concept really, any third grader can comprehend it....

What does that say about the mentality of the majority of these posters?

Now some dude is saying....God made provision for separation of Church and State....pa...lease!!

George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, FDR and martin Luther King all brought religion into their political philosophy and decision-making.

Read Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address, or the letter from a Birmingham jail.

It probably fell out of fashion about the time same-sex marriage and abortion on demand became top liberal causes.

As for me, my faith and my morals shape my political views.

PS For some on the left, the rule appears to be that religion should have no place in politics . . . unless it's a Democrat speaking in a baptist church.

:)

Earnest, how can you ask a yes/no question and then tell people they cannot say yes (or "obstains").

That's just silly.

I beleive if abortion is what you claim it is, then it's a matter between the person getting it performed and God..and he'll deal with them on his terms. Vengence is mine, sayeth the Lord.
And for the record, Jesus was apolitical. If anything, he leaned towards the left..hanging out with criminals and prostitutes..feeding the poor..ect.

I have no idea whether or not God exists much less if God is a "he" or what God thinks about abortion or anything else.

If you believe in God, recognize that God put death into the equation for every living thing....from natural causes, war earthquakes, disease, floods, etc.......

I see you also claim to speak for God -- Blasphemy!
