Hey thats a pretty good deal when you can supply weapons and training around the world for rebels and guerilla organizations and when it backfires you start labeling them as terrorists and invade sovereign countries that are harboring "terrorists."

In Iran-Contra, Oliver North, operating on orders of President Reagan, stole weapons from the US government, sold them Iran and used the proceeds to fund the Contras in Nicaragua as well as improvements on his personal residence. Those weapons, btw, are now being used on our soldier in Iraq and, in the past, on Israelis and Lebanese.

For this, Oliver North is considered a hero by the Republicans. Why do Republicans think that giving aid and comfort to the enemy and enabling them to kill US soldiers is "heroic"? Can someone please explain the Republican mindset to me?

God, I remember the very day the story broke. I was doing research with an old Lexis-Nexis machine (back then you had to insert a phone handset into these rubber rings to transmit or receive data). When my query results came back, there at the top of the page was a breaking-news item - Ronald Reagan approved selling weapons to Iran and using the revenues to fund the Contras, circumventing and directly violating laws on the books and in effect.

My jaw dropped. I turned to a colleague at the office and simply pointed at it. She looked at it and her eyes expanded to saucer size.

Webfoot and others - You must be Young Republicans who were in diapers or not yet born. It was major, and Enigma knows exactly that of which she speaks.

Unfortunately, to avoid being isolationist and acting as the police of the world the US has been a buttinsky. We have some how thought we have had the right to butt into the internal affairs of other countries for decades. With so much of that going on and circumsatances, friends and foes changing, it is inevitable that something is going to back fire. We are seeing evidence of that these days.

Its pretty simple. A country against israel (which itself is a illegal nation),plus oil, gets Bush to think it is a terrorists. And man CIA did so much terror activities. But one main activity that our goverment is doing is supporting Israel(terrorists) which $$$ and weapons so they can occupy more lands

I think so, don't forget that the CIA overthrew Mossadegh (pro American, western educated) in 1953 because they favored extremists in control of Iran to create conflict.
