The name itself means children of the sun. Their civilization started more than 5 thousand years before the birth of christ.
Most of what you read about in reference to egyptians has been lied on or fabricated to depict a people of more of a European look or descent.
The original Egyptians of the hieroglyphics were undoubtedly black. Thats one of the reasons why they called themselves children of the sun. They also worshipped the sun itself. The sun actually representing the mind. The knowledge of this was re-interpreted as being a worship of the son (Jesus.)Hitler knocked the noses and lips off of the statues to hide the true feautures of the Egytians.
I read a story about Osiris and Horus and believe it had Horus described as having long straight blond hair and blue eyes. That's impossible. The hieroglyphics themselves would have described him as a white man.
The egyptian culture began to get mixed after their fall to the Greeks who took all their gods and renamed them. The Greeks feel to the Romans who did the same.
I'm not a racist but I hate the fact that I can't even enjoy the history of my own ethnic group. Its bad enough I can't trace myself to which distinctive part of Africa my ancestors came from, I have to learn the truth by other black historians who had to go all the way back to Africa and find the truth itself.
Just like everyone would have you to believe Attila the Hun was a white European male, when in fact, he was a black African. His features were similar to that of an Ethiopian. So good luck finding out about Egyptians.

There is no real answer to that other than Greater than 5000 years ago.
The Nile valley and the general desert surrounding the area was quite lush for Thousands of years before current recorded civilization.
There is quite the argument amongst Archaeologists as to the date of the Sphinx some placing it beyond 7000 years ago.
