If you are trying to get the songs FROM your iPod TO your computer, go to this website and follow the directions:

You don't even have to download anything. It looks complicated at first, but it's really not. It took me like 5 min to do it and another 15 min to copy about 500 songs from my iPod to my computer.

Good luck :]

You have it backward. You have to first get songs into your iTunes Library (by either copying them from CD's, etc., or buying them from iTunes), and THEN you copy (by syncing your iPod to your computer) your songs FROM your computer TO your iPod. Not the other way around. It's a one-way street with your iPod: From your computer to your iPod. If you don't want to use your iPod to listen to music, you can just listen to your music directly from your computer without your iPod being involved at all.
