In 2000, De Beers and the Steinmetz Group unveiled 'The Millennium Star', a 203.4 carat, D-colour, internally and externally flawless pear-shaped diamond, arguably the most valuable diamond in the world.
Exhibited at the Millennium Dome in London. Nicky Oppenheimer, chairman, De Beers, did not put any value on the diamond but 'The London Evening Star' insured 'The Millennium Star' for 100 million pounds. Even this is believed to be just a fraction of its price.
However, here's the rub, the Cullinan I is the largest white coloured cut diamond in existance at 530.2 Carats. It resides in HM Queen of Great Britain's sceptre with cross.
The Cullinan II at 317.4 carats (63.48 g), is the third largest polished diamond in the world and is also part of the British crown jewels, as it forms a part of the Imperial State Crown. Both gems are on display at the Tower of London, as parts of the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom.
Both Cullinan diamonds are priceless.
The largest cut diamond however is the "Golden Jubilee" diamond that belongs to the Thai King. It's 545.67 Carats and is yellow-brown diamond in a fire rose cushion cut. It's larger than the Cullinan by about 3.7 grammes (1/10th of an Imperial UK Ounce).
The Hope diamond is tiny in comparison, at a mere 45.52 Carats.
