Yes you should sacrifice your life for Jesus

There is always the possibility that your belief is wrong. And in many religious frameworks, no matter how much you may be awarded in an afterlife, you still only have one life itself. So it could still easily be heroic, if sacrifice and risk are prerequisites for heroism.

The only way it would be otherwise in such a situation would be if life had a zero or negative value... something which is true in very, very few philosophies. That would mean that nihilists have no heroes, but I suppose that would be no suprise to anyone.

Most people also require shared ideals and motivation for a label of heroism. Someone who dies to strike out against a country he sees as evil may be a hero to others who agree, but is probably seen as a villain by those who hold a different assessment of the facts.

This is a clue to why some people get very upset if you don't agree that their heroes are such: you are attacking their very value system and branding yourself as their enemy. So it goes.

I see your point. if this life isnt all there is and the next is gonna be better, what are you giving up? right?
well I believe 100% in an after life ,but at the same time, I really do like my life here.several weeks ago,I had a condition which ended up taking 2 surgeries to fix, there was a point where I felt afraid and prayed for my safety and that i would not die. not because I fear death so much, as i have too much to leave behind. 6 children between the ages of 6 and 14 ,to name just one important thing and at almost 50 years old ive gotten through most of the crap young people go through and have really begun to enjoy my life. and dying now would be like leaving the best party ever 1/2 way through.
so ,I guess what im trying to say is although I believe in the afterlife,Im rather attached to the present life.so yes it would be a sacrifice to give my life for what I believe in. And I would lay my life down for a right cause if it was to serve the better good.

---Next Day---
I had to come this morning to add something. because one of the answers started me thinking.
it had to do with hurting other people and I felt I should clarify my response by adding that the type of sacrifice or martyrdom that I speak of , does not include blowing myself up and taking others (innocent people) with me.
I would die for my faith ,I would die rather than renounce my faith .I would die for each of my children.
but the type of martrydom that includes terrorizing others is not heroic nor can it be counted as a sacrifice, but as unspeakable evil done by misled brain washed individuals.and can not be condoned.

Whether or not this would be judged as heroism is up to the people that you martyred yourself for. For example if you were a jihadi, you would not be a hero to me but you may be to another jihadist muslim. So what I'm saying is it's not an absolute. Also, today's hero can sometimes be tomorrow's embarassment. Think about how modern German youth think of their grandparents who fought 'heroically' during WW2.

"Cause???" What cause would there be to sacrafice your life for? I do believe 100% in the afterlife... But I'm not going to try to be a Hero & get there faster for the sake of a cause or any one thing! We're here - to experience life, not rush back to the afterlife! ~ that's the idea I have anyway!

Giving your life for a cause is fanatic! Giving your life to save another person, it's the way. Think of firefighters who loose their life in fire and save children or others...
A cause, you change your mind about all the time, a life: you should never hesitate.

It's better to have 100% belief in this life as it's a gift, or it should be, you know by experience that you're here. The only way that I can see myself sacrificing my life would be if anything happened to my children, then I just couldn't go on in this life without them, the pain would be too great for me to take.

If you have a 100% belief in afterlife, and you kill yourself to get there, I would call it - impatience!

Logically,

after life shall be lie before life. All the identities you acquired here in this world can not be carried forth.

So better remain here as long as possible, sicne you do not know how it used to be before your birth and how it shall be after you die out.

No its just being a fundamentalist with an over inflated, egotistical sense of your own value and worth.
