Report: Yankees Offer Manager Job To Joe Girardi
NEW YORK (CBS) ― The Yankees may have their new manager.

The team has offered their managerial job to former Yankee catcher Joe Girardi, and he is expected to accept it, according to a report on ESPN Radio.

Also in the report, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman informed coaches Don Mattingly and Tony Pena that they will not be getting the job.

A source said Girardi is expected to fly to New York for the official announcement, which is likely tomorrow.

Girardi's contract is expected to be in the three-year, $6 million range.

Has anybody heard this??? Do you agree with the decison?

Mattingly is a baby. A big baby.. Awww he doesnt like the fact that someone else got the job he wanted, so he says he wont be back as anything next season. Good way to be a team player, idiot. Mattingly has always been a selfish player, and I guess that he is now a selfish coach.

Now that I got that out of the way, I think Girardi is in for a rude awakening. He is now the guy who got hired after Torre quit.. Those are some huge shoes to fill, in the media, in the front office, in the dugout, etc.. I think he is going to have some problems his first season or 2. I just hope that the Streinbrenners dont jump the gun too quick and fire him too quickly, b ecuase he is a good manager

I think it is a good choice. Apparently, the Steinbrenner's turned the decision over to the baseball people, and stayed out of it. Cashman essentially made this call, and I think it is a good thing considering he is the one that has rebuilt the team. I couldn't see Don Mattingly or Tony Pena succeeding Joe Torre. Girardi is a strong leader, more demanding than Torre. He will be a good about face from the Torre years, which is what they need. I only hope that the way they handled this did not alienate Mattingly or Pena. Both of these coaches are still valuable to the organization, and should be developed further, not to mention they are both icons. I don't think Mattingly was experienced to handle the Yankees in there current state. He might benefit from coaching triple A or something. He kind of signed his fate when he let it slip that he didn't think he was ready to coach the Yankees during the Torre departure.

Girardi is a great choice...if a manager's responsibility is to undermine those who are part of the organizational hierarchy, tell the boss to shut the f___ up, delve out tips to opposing players on division rival teams during the final stretch run of a pennant chase, and overwork young pitchers to the point of potentially ending their careers, then yes, this is a real winner all the way.

Girardi was at the World Series, not acting like a future manager of the Yankees...

OK, I guess it is Girardi...Its on Yahoo...first I've heard of it...

yes, totally agree. the best choice!

you could tell that something was up when he was asked that during the world series pregame and he had a big smile on his face.

mattingly is a fine coach, but i think would be too much like torre. girardi would be fresh blood.

He is not the quality manager as Torre would have been but is defiantly better than Mattingly or Pena.

No I don't agree. I would have preferred Don Mattingly but what ever. There are way to many changes going on with the Yanks. Im scared.

He is the only candidate that has a chance to succeed in that environment. The Yankees actually made a good move for once.

It appears that way...

BTW - As a Sox fan, one of the good things about the series being over is that we don't have to listen to Tim McCarver and Joe Buck any more.
