Democrats, overall, got more coverage — and more positive ink and airtime — than Republicans.

I'm surprised anyone still thinks there is a liberal media! Good one!

Interesting story, and here's an analysis from the actual report that tells why:

" Democrats generally got more coverage than Republicans, (49% of stories vs. 31%.) One reason was that major Democratic candidates began announcing their candidacies a month earlier than key Republicans, but that alone does not fully explain the discrepancy.

Overall, Democrats also have received more positive coverage than Republicans (35% of stories vs. 26%), while Republicans received more negative coverage than Democrats (35% vs. 26%). For both parties, a plurality of stories, 39%, were neutral or balanced.

Most of that difference in tone, however, can be attributed to the friendly coverage of Obama (47% positive) and the critical coverage of McCain (just 12% positive.) When those two candidates are removed from the field, the tone of coverage for the two parties is virtually identical."

Just another conservative rumor based in fiction and not fact. Say it often enough and people will start believing it. Of course, the spin on "positive" may be true, since repubs don't make much good press these days. With "Craig" in the news, the Iraq blunder, the Afghan uprisings, high oil prices, the failing Cheney energy policy, nose-diving economy, slanted facts from the white house and a failure by all leaders to face reality, it may be true that repubs are getting bad press. But at the same time, the dems aren't getting good press either.

Hardly earth-shattering. It's been like that for many election cycles.

I suspect a lot of liberals will choose to deny the results of the study, as they have the results of many other previous studies that said the same thing - that the media is biased leftward.

Even liberal newsman Bernard Goldberg, who wrote "Bias" to talk about the unintentional, but omnipresent bias in the media, was called a liar. But when most newsrooms around the country are made up of at least 75% Democrat-voting newspeople, how can that overwhelming majority view NOT insinuate itself into the news?

Not surprised because I read/view the MSM all the time and they almost always give democrats more air and more positive spins than they do republicans. Read almost any article about a corrupt democrat and you need to search for the word democrat hidden in the story. A story about an accused republican and republican or GOP is in the headline along with some reference to their deviance. \
It is fine to have a bias. What I have a problem with is people denying that it exists contrary to all the evidence.

As the article said, the media focus on fundraising.

And like it or not, Democrats are crushing Republicans in fund-raising this year.

Why?

Are there any Republicans running?

After the total mess George W Bush has made of America, I don't think Republican candidates are pertinent

Of course I am not surprised that the liberal media gives more coverage to democrats. What I am surprised about is that ANY media source covered such a story.
