It depends on what you want and what you mean by better.
If you mean "stuff", then yeah, the USA is the place to get stuff.
If you mean quality of life, family life, health care, tolerance, there are plenty of better places. But you have to be willing to forgo a lot of "stuff" like jet-skis, 50" TVs, etc. etc.
People don't come to america to "be free". They come to get stuff.
I'd live in Italy in a heartbeat if I could figure out citizenship and how to make a living there.

In the service or as a tourist, one cannot get a true sense of the country they are visiting. As an American, I have lived in Europe for ten years (Switzerland, Belgium, France, Netherlands) and traveled extensively. I was married overseas and began my family there. I also love America and returned here to be with my family and enjoy the nature we love here so much. But I must say that the quality of life in the countries I have lived in was far better than what I experience here, and if not for my obligations to parents and family, I would probably move back to Europe again. The health care in the countries I have lived in is equal or better than the health care I recieve here, my doctors came to my home when my babies or I was sick, the food is good and healthy, people take time to enjoy each others company or walk together after a meal, singing and being together with their children, grandparents, and friends. Life is good! You did not say if you ever lived overseas as a civilian outside of the service, an experience which isolates people on American bases with American stores in American-English speaking communities. I wonder: have you learned all the languages of the countries in which you lived so that you could easily communicate with the local people and read the newspapers? Until one has become immersed in a society, one cannot have a real impression of what that society is. Yes, America is a great country to live in too (and my recent discontent comes from the government's arrogance, aggression and war hawking). There are many great countries people of the earth can call home. It seems boastful to say we are the best, and sadly, Americans say that a lot. Many foreigners think their country is great. The fact is, people all over the world are the same, and we should all consider ourselves children of the earth rather than calling ourselves the best.

I would rather live here than in many of the other countries that I have visited. That doesn't mean that I don't have vision for an even better America.
We can improve in many ways. We have always done that throughout our history but conservatives can never see beyond the present. Thank goodness we rarely listen to conservatives and we usually try to move forward.

no other place on earth has as wonderful a combination of food producing climate and geography, or rich mineral resources.
If America were managed better, it would be that much better. We waste more than some countries even have. there are many countries, including Norway and Finland, that do more for their citizens than America does, despite the fact that they have so much less than the US.

No place...that doesn't mean we should sit back while our country is being changed for the worse. That's like saying my life is good because I am a thief, but my neighbor is a murderer.

I think the US is great. I still think it need improvement. Health care here is poor. We have too many violent crimes. We have too many people in prison. We go to war at the drop of a hat. And most Americans are too fat. Me too.
Just cause you complain about something doesn't mean you don't love it. I complain about my wife, but I still love her.

This is a great question b/c there's no other country on this planet that is better than the U.S.A. The freedoms that we enjoy are unrivaled and we should thank God every day for them.
God Bless the U.S.A.

be it ever so humble, there is no place like home -- I've met people from Haiti who said they missed the place. I mean really, how can you miss HAITI?
