How many more will jump ship now that "Hank the Yank" has taken over the team?

Mattingly told management of his decision after he was told that he didn't get the managers position.

You can't place any blame on Hank with this one. Mattingly was interviewed along with Pena and Girardi to manage the Yankees next year. It looks like Girardi is going to get the job and Mattingly elected to leave as a result. Yankees management has to go with the person they believe will do the best job without taking into consideration as to what others might do if they don't get the job. There will be plenty more things occurring to place blame on management but this is not one of them.

I heard A-Rod opted out also, maybe a cleaning is what they needed, I have always like Mattingly and I always wanted to see him get a ring with the Yankees, but I guess it is not meant to be. Well all the Red Sox fans will be too busy gloated over their win to kick the Yankee fans when they are down, I hope. Come heck or high water they are still my team , I will always support them, unlike some fair weather fans I know who jumped ship a few years ago!

That is a basd decision for Mattingly and not too bad for the Yankees...you do not want a whiney coach on your staff. He would have shown a lot more character to wait until Torre was hired elsewhere and go to his staff then rather than saying "if I'm not the manager than I am out of here!" I think of the three candidates they got the best Manager, it will be interesting to see who his staff is...I say Brosius and O'Neill as base coaches, Jimmy Key as the Pitching coach and Bernie as the hitting coach!

I knew Joe Giradi was going to get the job. The mass exodus has begun. There goes Andy Pettiti, Posada, A-Rod, and other will jump ship. Steinbrenner screwed Joe T. and his team is gonna suffer. It will not be the same in "The House that Ruth Built"

But that's good, right? The Mattingly Curse and all? Couldn't win with him, did win without him, sort of thing?

I believe the following will leave - MO, Pettite, Posada. Check out my question about the same topic. I didn't realize you asked a similar question too!
- Joba Chamberlain Jr.

It's not surprising. I doubt that he wanted to take orders from Girardi. I would imagine that Guidry will probably leave also. You gotta figure there will be a big turnover.
