rohak and bob are both right......the only source of oil for Germany was the Ploesti fields in Romania; the whole reason Japan went to war in the first place was to grab the oil fields in Indonesia/Borneo. Both conquests kept them afloat for 2-3 years...and once they lost access the Axis were doomed.

Japan had 1 big problem to get these resources back to home islands they had to be shipped. Thanks to the US Submarines a lot of them found the briney deep before making back to home port.

They were very successful. In fact it became one of the higher priorities of the Allies disrupt these supplies.
