I think they should start by eliminating pre-season rankings.... Wait until Mid-October/Early November to come out with rankings. Then by the end of the season, do a top 16 playoff...
That would give hope to those 11-1 teams that move out of the top 10, down to 15'ish.....
So yeah, playoff top 16.. Break it down by east and west, or north/south.
PAC-10, Big-12 in the west, Big-10, SEC, ACC in the east....
Or Big-10, PAC 10 in the north, SEC and BIG-12 in the south...
Something like that.

Now you’re beginning to see why this is almost an impossible task and may actually be worse for college football than the BCS.
First of all, whether it’s 4, 8, 16, or 24 teams, you still have to use some type of poll to rank the teams. Look at this year’s rankings and how things have changed from week to week. Do you think the amount of complaining would go down if your team doesn’t even make it into the playoffs?
I can hear all of the SEC and Pac10 fans complaining now if only the conference champions make it into the playoffs. There is a lot more money coming in from bowl games if your conference sends 3, 4, or 5 teams!
Now the timing, what happens to all of the bowl games, how many games will there be on New Year’s day? What about travel, you bring a lot more fans, and cash, when you can plan 4 weeks in advance.
The other issue is location, do you think that all of the northern schools will agree to a playoff system that is only held down south or out west! Do you think the LSU fans would complain if they had to go to Ann Arbor at the end of December?
It won’t work, the system we have today is the best for college football, even with all of the second guessing and complaining.

Scrap it and go back to the old system. Have the richest bowl game pick who they want to play, the best 2 teams. There might not always be a difinitive national champion, but that's better than what we got last year, when Boise State was the best team, but since the BCS said they're not, they're not.
A tournament would be great for television, but would suck for real fans who go to the game. You can't plan a trip to the championship game if you don't know if your team will be in it until a week before the game.
Scrap the BCS, and don't replace it.

No way to answer that. Playoffs would take FOREVER. The BCS sucks, yes, but how else are people gonna make their money?
If you only have one championship game, then you won't get to see Lower Southeast Texas Community College play University of Kentucky Institute of Technology in the Food.com Bowl.

24. Since the top 25 ranked teams are the usually considered the better teams, therefore more likely to be the national champions. I would prefer a basketball like playoff.

How about 12 teams. The winners of each conference proceed to a tournament for National Champion. Various bowl games stay in tact for non-first place finishers who perform well.
Giving non-BCS conferences a chance to enter the tournament every year will reduce the disparity and lead to more competition and better games.

Play off series
example
winner of SEC plays winner of Big 10
winner of ACC plays winner of Big east
SEC plays Big east
and so on
to much pressure on young players. It seams if you are not Florida and lose a game it will take you out of contention for the big prize. Lose twice if your not Florida and you will be out of the top 25. Lose three times if your not Florida and your complete season is lost.

8 teams, any more than that will cause the season to drag on too long, remember these players are STUDENT athletes and have other responsibilities besides football.
