The Calgary Flames are already off to a good start, and are in a playoff position. There was an article in the Calgary Sun a week ago telling how the players (except Kiprusoff) have fallen in love with Keenan and his systems. They are well ahead of last season's pace after 11 games and I think they continue to gel under Keenan. Kipper started off slowly last year and seems to have done the same this year. I believe he'll get his act together sooner rather than later.
Their two best players are Iginla and Phaneuf, and Phaneuf is young enough to be the leader of this team for many many years.
I know nothing about their farm team so I can't help you there.

Yes they are. They have a very good team. Their best player is Jarome Iginla.
LITY; you must admit that if the Avs goalies keep playing at this level; the Avs will surely win the division. Were you serious about Giguere shopping Theodore? Or was that just your opinion?
~
LITY: Perhaps you are right, but if I was the GM, I wouldn't want to mess with the chemistry of the team right now. The Avs have three stellar, high-scoring lines. Brad Richardson will soon come back to help the 4th line and the PK unit.
Our Dmen are good too. Even though Leopold and Skrastins are injured, look at the guys who have filled in; Finger is an impressive +13 in 29 games with the Avs, and Cumiskey is looking to be the one of the best offensive dmen in the league in a couple of years.
We do NOT need another forward or another Dman. We do need a goalie. I am not sure Theodore or Budaj can handle the workload. They both still tend to give up soft goals. Is there any way you can relay this info to Francois? I think he needs to open his eyes a little, lol.

They look alright so far, not good but not bad. I think they will finish 7th or 8th in the conference at the end of the season. Their best player is Jarome Iginla, because he's a really good leader, and he's an all around player. Their best young players in my opinion in the AHL (Quad City Flames) are Dustin Boyd, and Brett Sutter, both played for Junior team Canada, and Boyd had an excellent season last year.

Going to be?
The Calgary Flames are a very good team right now, and a couple of the teams they have played so far have commented on how much better they play than last year.
Only time will tell if they are for real or not, but for now I believe that they are. I picked Calgary to finish slightly higher than Colorado and win the Northwest this year, and so far nothing has changed my mind.
They have the best coach in all of hockey, and a man who is widely regarded (personality aside) as a hockey genius. They have a great goaltender in Kiprusoff who started off slow last year, and is doing the same this year. They have a good core of forwards led by Tanguay, Iginla, Langkow, Huselius, and Lombardi followed by a good core of defencemen led by Phaneuf, Sarich, Aucoin, Warrener, and Regehr. Conroy, Nilsen, Nolan, and Yelle give them experience and leadership as well.
I'm sticking to my Flames for the Northwest prediction still slightly edging Colorado.
Their leading prospects are the aging Eric Nystrom (Bob's son), Dustin Boyd, Brett Sutter (Brent's son), goaltender Leland Irving, and Matthew Pelech, a D-man.
Mike,
Giguere has been shopping Theodore since last year. Both he and Quenneville think that Budaj is capable of doing the job. Trading Theodore will get you a whole whack in return based on his salary, and if the Avs can get the right players back, they could be the best team in the west (even better than the Red Wings).
As it stands now, Theodore is tying up money that could be used elsewhere, and until that happens, Calgary is the best team in the Northwest based on coaching, goaltending, and defence. If Calgary could only score......sigh. In the case of the Avs, they are a solid D-man and solid face-off man away. Both of which could be easily obtained for Theodore's salary.

They are good now and will be a very good team before the end of the year. Jerome Iginla is their best player outside of the crease. I think Kiprusoff is the best tender in the league. His numbers don't show it right now but considering he is a notoriously slow starter and the offense has been anemic for years, how can you say that Iginla is the best player they have? Kipper is good for 40 wins and six shutouts without breaking a sweat. If their offense miraculously gets good, he could get 50.

So far, it doesn't look like it. I think it was a mistake to hire Keenan.
