I basically keep my heater (and air conditioner) off except when needed. When the humidity is low, I am comfortable down to about 65 degrees, when it is high I am cold at about 70 degrees. So I just turn it on when I get cold(and when I get hot in summer). I do the same at night, I leave it off at night and turn it on in the morning when I get up.

We are all different, adjust it to your comfort level, not anyone else level(unless they live with you)

Summer thermostat setting 80
Winter 65

( I feel hot at 80 and a slightly chilly at 65 but that's what I've seen on energy conservation commercials)
