I am on Trinessa (the pill) and I am always very worried about getting pregnant. I vary rarely let my partner go without a condom, but like it better when I dont make him wear one. When we do have sex without a condom I get worried about the side effects...getting pregnant. Is it okay to have sex without a condom and to have my partner ejaculate while inside of me if Im on the pill? What is the effectiveness of Trinessa, percentage wise, of not getting pregnant?

Yes! If you are having sex you can get prego! I was on Nuva Ring when I got prego. But then again, I'm married. I say, if you're not ready for a kid, and you are not married, don't have sex!

If you read the directions on your prescription packet and follow it correctly the chances of getting pregnant on Trinessa are <1%, which is less then the chance of becoming pregnant while using an IUD (1-2%), the next most effective birth control short of sterilization. The key is to be consistent using the pill, take it religiously every day at the same time. Those that take the pill and get pregnant often have an hormonal imbalance that makes them ovulate on the pill (like PCOS) or are not taking it correctly or do not use back up methods as directed. Oh yeah, and taking St. John's Wort (herbal remedy for depression) and some antibiotics can reduce the effectiveness of the pill, as can obesity.

Top reason for birth control pill failure? User error. I'd say what you're doing is overkill, but if you really don't want to get pregnant it can't hurt. I have used low dose birth control in the past for years, I am obese and have been, and I never got pregnant while using birth control pills. BUT! I took them everyday at the same hour, never skipped one, never took herbal remedies, and reminded my doc about being on birth control pills if prescribed antibiotics. Don't sweat it too much, I think you've covered everything.

None of the birth control pills are 100% effective. Whatever the actual statistic is, you must realize that there is ALWAYS a chance you will get pregnant.

Even if you found a statistic that said there was only one chance in a thousand that you could conceive, that doesn't mean that you can have sex one thousand times and have not worries. Put to actual practice, a statistic like that may mean that one can get pregnant, the FIRST time, and, perhaps NOT get pregnant the next thousand. Or, one might conceive the first TWO times, and not get pregnant the NEXT two thousand times.

Statistical probabilities are no guarantees, and you can't manipulate the numbers to fit any specific reality. If you intend to have sex, you and your partner must be prepared for the possibility of conceiving a child, and all the consequences and decisions that result.

Take care.

The birth control pill is 99% effective as long as you take it everyday at the same time. The pill stops you from ovulating so your chances of getting pregnant are slim to none. I was on the bc pill for a year and never used a condom with my bf and never ended up pregnant. In fact once I was off the pill we never used a condom and I didn't get pregnant for 3 years. But everyone is different. I'm sure you are safe without the condom though as long as you are sure your bf is clean and you wont end up with an std or infection.

Hi,
If you are taking your pill correctly you can have all the condomless sex you want and not get pregnant. Birth control pills if taken correctly, that means you take them at the same time every day and do not miss a dose are 99% effective.

You are def being extra careful when wearing a condom as far as sexually transmitted infections go. The pill
works by preventing ovulation, which means your egg is not released and, therefore, can't be fertilized by sperm. The Pill also causes your cervical mucus to become thick, making it difficult for sperm to enter your uterus. You can feel very confident that your pill is working to prevent pregnancy.

I personally have never taken trinessa... i was on ortho tri cyclen when i got pregnant with my son *2 years ago* but i was also taking anti-biotics which WILL COUNTERACT the birth control.... but just because you're on the pill does not mean you can't get pregnant.... oral contraceptives are 92-97 % effective a condom is 60-86%
just because ur're on birth control doesn't make u immune to getting pregnant, you can get pregnant even if he pulls out which is a 75-81% effective...... if u are that worried about it use a condom, because if you don't there is a STONG possiblity u could get pregnant... now i have an IUD Mirena which u can only get once u have had a child vaginally.... but it is 99.9% effective and the pamphlet i got from the doc on it is what i am getting these numbers from..... i would say still be very careful... i would advise the condom even though we all know they suck an no one like to wear them... but either that.... or u will spend the rest of your life taking care of another human being... or at least 18 years :) just be careful! at least u are on the pill so ur chances are low, but it doesn't mean you won't get pregnant....

The pill, if used correctly is 99 percent effective. So, if you take it everyday like you are supposed to, you should be fine. I was the same way when my now husband and I decided to stop using condoms. Even though I'd been on the pill for years, I'd always used them (mostly for STD reasons). I actually told him I wouldn't stop using them until i had a doctor's note in hand that said he was clean. Anyway, because I was paranoid, I looked into it and apparently they sell Spermicide in tubes that you can put in you before intercourse like a tampon. So, you don't need a condom, and the spermicide is kind of an extra lubricant.

However, this was also the weekend that I discovered I'm allergic to Spermicide! Yeah, that was a fun trip to Urgent care! Anyway, my doctor told me that while he applauded my commitment to birth control and safe sex, that my pill alone (as long as it was taken correctly) would be sufficient BC. So, for years while I was on it, I never got pregnant.

So, you can trust the pill (as long as you trust yourself to take it correctly, or there is always the spermicide jelly! As long as you aren't allergic, it should be fine:) Good luck, and remember to get tested for STDs before going off condoms!

Most birth control pills are highly effective if you use them correctly. That said, they are not 100% effective and it is still remotely possible for you to get pregnant. This isn't very serious because signs of pregnancy will show up quite early and you can just get the embryo aborted before it causes you any trouble. Also, if you decide that you're sure you never want to have a baby at all, ever, you can have a surgical procedure done that makes you infertile and the effectiveness of this procedure as a contraceptive is virtually 100%.

If you take your pill regularly then I think that it is about 90-something % effective at stopping pregnancy. There is however a small chance you could fall pregnant. All the time I was on the pill my partner never used a condom and always ejaculated inside of me and I did not fall pregnant.
