we dress up our kids and send them out begging for treats?
Why isn't it done any other time, say easter?

It's traditional,And it's fun,As kids go,Like Christmas and Easter when it comes around its something to look forward to,Carve a pumpkin and put a candle in it . Nothing like the dark nite spooky costumes, The smell of candles burning in a few pumpkins, You asked why isn't this done any other time,IT is done, in Mexico they have the day of the dead.Dressing up like skeletons dancing in the streets celebrating the dead anyway i could go on but different cultures have there own version we have the Halloween tradition ..

when I was a kid, we got dressed up, but not in costumes, and got special treats for Easter. each holiday has it's own customs and practices.

the idea of the holiday was to celebrate the eve of the day of the dead..the idea of the costumes was so the dead returning could not tell the difference or who was who and would not bother them..it was to confuse the dead....the idea of treats came along later...

Its American way of celebrating the day of the dead and the ghosts and usually people get dressed as such.

because we follow tradition that is centuries old,and we only do this at halloween which just happens to fall in October.
