I have been looking for a job, because I just graduated college with a medical office administrative degree, and I keep getting job offers from staffing companies. I am confused at what they actually do. I believe they find a job for you, but hire you for them first or something like that. If anyone has better information for me that would be great. Thanks!

There are many different types of staffing companies. Some are strictly permanent placement firms, others are purely temporary positions where you are employed by the staffing firm and there is also a hybrid where you start off with the staffing company then roll into a permanent job with the other company.

If you are getting solicitations from these companies after putting your resume on Monster or some other job board my bet is that they are just fishing and getting your details into their database. If they are legitimate then ask for a full job description and full details of the position they have available.

Good luck

They do several things:

1. They send people out on job assignments either as temporary people or as "evaluation hire." Either way, you start as an employee of the staffing company and you work at a client.

2. They find great people for companies, and collect a fee from the company. In this case, you would start as an employee of the client.

3. Various other activities to support Human Resource professionals.

It costs companies money to hire people, so they have found that by hiring temps (which is what a staffing company is) cuts their costs by not paying for benefits etc. The staffing company may be charging the Business say for example $15.00/hr for you, but you're only getting $10.00/hr. You need to find out what the fees are (%). Many places say they will "HIRE" you if you work for 90 days, but that's just a way for the staffing company to make money from you!

A GOOD staffing company spends time with the clients to make sure they fully understand the type of person that needs to be supplied to the customer. Thye would then send the best candidate for interviews and follow ups. They should also take care of final full time placement if that is the desire.
