To me the battle is an encounter, a brief one. Being brief means there is an equal chance to win or lose.
The war is a philosophy of reigning, a struggle for survival.
Yeah the fight is on 24/7 including when I am reigning and/or sleeping. Ever seen how lions, buffaloes and even elephants.... they battle it out in order to dominate and mate, to have offsprings of their own... They will fight till they are defeated and ousted from the herd. The enermy also does not rest because instinctively they know that victory is a 50/50 chance.
So if you believe in battles then you may have to go the last mile and believe in war.
Oh ... I usually try to fight the war without getting into encounters (battles) and I win 80% of them.

I'm a Pacifist, so my ideology's a little skewed.
The only way for me to win is not to fight the war.

Of Course, it's not over till it's over. The important thing, to me anyway, is to learn from the loss, also gotta live to fight another day, so retreat is sometimes not a bad policy...

Actually it depends. OIn life battles I never, never, never give up on certain things.
In battles with others sometime I compromise.
