I've heard of gasoline and other things described with the adjective "high test". What does this mean exactly?

For gasoline, it's a nickname for a grade of gasoline with a higher octane rating. With modern engines, there is little benefit from using a grade of gasoline higher than the one recommended by the car manufacturer.
