My brother said for the past 5 days on both hands his ring and pinky finger are numb. when he raises his hands up, it hurts and feels like his funny bone pops? he is 42, was in a car accident back in april or so, just brusies and bumps, he was been working at a pizza place, and kneads the dough, not sure if anything is connected. He is going to the doctor soon, but we were just trying to figure things out. Could it be something with B12? lack of? i have been searching online.

I have the same problem. It's been this way for a year now. I haven't been able to find out why my hands are numb. I have Pernicious Anemia, which is a B12 deficiency, and searched on that, also, without finding a satisfactory answer. My doctor doesn't seem to be concerned and I've had no help there. I'd be interested to know what your brother's doctor says.

numbness in the pinky and ring finger on both hands sounds like a nerve issue at the root...which would be C8...or right below the 7th cervical vertebra...if that space is compressed...which could have happened unknowingly in the accident...it could pinch the nerve and he would get numbness in the pinky and ring finger...as for the popping at the elbow it could be that the nerve is actually pinched there in each arm but something else could be going on...I dunno much about B12 defficiency but nerve injury sounds most likely to me...hope he finds out for sure at the doc and gets better soon

It needs to be checked out. That can be caused by nerve compression between Cervical vertebrae 5 and 6. That often is caused by a ruptured disk, a definite possibility with a car wreck. If it were the thumb, index and second finger, that would be compression between C6 and C7.

Could very well be the beginning of a heart problem. Get to a doctor a.s.a.p. for a check up. Blood too thick could clog up the blood vessel and the fingers starved of blood would become numb and so it can be serious.

I think he's leaning on his elbows too much. Just like when you cross your legs your feet go to sleep, due to the peroneal nerve being pressed on; when you lean on your elbows along the inner side the ulnar nerve puts your ring and little fingers to sleep and they get numb. When you remove the pressure off the inner side of your elbow the circulation starts to come back and then the pins and needles sensation returns as the neural circulation gets better. The ulnar nerve is more exposed on the inside part of your elbow. Just tell him not to do that and he'll get better and prevent it from re-occurring.
