You're talking about doing something *really* dangerous. Have you ever run into a screw, when you're cutting wood on the table saw?
There are obviously saws which rip raw timber. That's how you get dimensional lumber. They operate with special dogs to hold the wood, and the operator stands behind a shield to protect him, and yet the workman comp rates for sawmills is awfully high, so they must have a lot of accidents.
Before they had power saws, they had a really long two-man saw, with one guy in a pit below the log and one guy above it. I've never talked to anyone who actually sawed wood that way, It sounds incredibly difficult to do a good job - but they did it, anyway.
I think you want to use a hand saw - a rip saw, of course - plus some C-clamps, and some sort of a jerry-rigged fence to keep your cut straight.

That's what a band saw is used for. There are also models called re-saws which have heavier duty blades for turning tree branches and logs into useable lumber.
Invest in a band saw for that purpose, trying to run a tree branch through a table saw is not only dangerous but it won't come out the way you want it to.

oooh. Yeah that's a really ricky project. If it's a nice thick, heavy branch that is not going to catch on the saw and throw back in your face, you could try it. I would definitely NOT do this without the table saw fence in place... that will help keep the cut nice and straight. If it is a branch less than 3" in diameter, I would probably not try it.

Sure, if you don't mind losing a thumb.
Seriously, with all the knots in natural wood, your branch could easily jump when the blade hits the denser wood. If you really need to cut like that, you just about need some kind of anchor.

I have done it, but don't recommend it. The blade has to be high enough to get through the branch and will bind up easily. A thin blade like in a band saw would be easier.

Give up this idea before you hurt yourself and ruin your saw. I once tried to cut a small limb on my bandsaw, which is much safer, but all I managed was to break my saw blade.
