I am planning on going to school to do something with animals, but wnat to know what the best paying job (besides a V.M.D., of course) for an animal care worker is. If there is an easier way to become a V.M.D i might consider it, but right now I just want school to get a degree that could help pay for Vet school if i ever decide to go. It's not really about the money, I lover animals, but it would be nice to have a well paying job too.

According to the US Dept. of Labor, Vet Assts. made a median of about $11.99 an hour in 2004, that would be about $12.82 in 2007 dollars. That's about $26,665 per year or $2222 per month.

Conversely, the mean veterinarian salary was $66,590 or $71,126 in 2007 dollars. $71,000 (based on a 40 hour week) is $34 an hour.

There's a huge difference in pay between a vet asst and a veterinarian.
