How do you figure out the square footage of something.
If you have a 1/4" x 48" x 10' slab - how may square feet is it?

Multiply everything together after converting to inches then divide by 12.

1/4'' x 48'' x (10x12) = 1440/12 = 120 cubic feet

EDIT - guy below me is right if you want square footage. Whoops.

I assume the area of the slab you are concerned with is 48" x 10' and the thickness is 1/4".

48" = 4 ft.

Area = 4' x 10' = 40 ft²

No, you wouldn't want to multiply EVERYTHING together, Ace3.

Square footage is area, so you need two dimensions, not three. The thickness of the slab (1/4") isn't directly important in determining how much space it will cover, so we need only worry about the length (48" = 4 feet) and the width (10 feet). Area (in ft²) = length x width. I assume you've got it from here?

48"=4'
10 x 4 =40 square feet .i presume the 1/4 is the thickness

To covert feet to inches, multiply by 12.
find the volume 1/4 " x 48 " x 120"
12 inches=1 foot
144 sq. inches = 1 square feet.
divide the volume by 144.

1/4" = 1/48 of a foot

48" = 4 feet

10' = 10 feet (I assume by the single dash ')

So we have-:
10 * 4 * 1/48 = 0.8333 cubic feet.
Remember Volume is in Cubic units, Area is in Square units.
