Many years ago, I worked for a computer company (Built computers). I tested different things before they shipped. Back then they not have sleep modes and such. I left all my test equipment turned on 24/7, that included my test computer with the test software. When I go home I just turn my Display's brightness down on the monitor and oscilloscope so they not burn the screen. I never had trouble with my equipment, even my oscilloscope never needed calibrated. Other people who turn off everything always had trouble off and on, Booting and needing "Scopes" calibrated.
So, as the first answer say in short. No, it not better to turn off. But, when things start acting weird you may have to Re-Boot. One security caution people mention. If, you connected to the Inet. Disconnect the Cable or whatever to keep someone from using your computer as a server when you not around.

I've always left mine on since I can rememeber. I just got tired of turning it one every time I need to use it. Besides, the impact on electricity consumption was little to nothing.

Lightening can fry your computer -- if you are away for any period of time or if thunderstorms are in the forecast, unplug.
