.. I've read that the 3200 will be reduced to the 2100 speed when both are installed together.

My question is, would it be better to have the 1gb+256mb running at pc2100 ---- or ----- 1gb running at pc3200 ??

Usually more memory is better than faster memory. If you computer runs out of RAM memory, it moves to a swap file that is hundreds of times slower then even 2100 memory.

However, with the difference only being 256mb, the 3200 speed may be better then the same increase in RAM size of the 256.

I would play it with it a little with both settings and see if you notice enough difference to matter....

Well the pc3200 is the bus speed of the ram. However you adding the 1gb to what you have already may not work because of the bus speed.

I would experiment and see what can work for you.

Just make sure you seat the RAM in good, to get a good connection..

Good luck

The first question is:

Did you check to see if your computer BIOS can handle the pc3200 RAM chip?

I'd hate to see you mess up your computer BIOS by putting in a wrong chip.

Did you check at www.crucial.com and identify your machine and find the right RAM ?
