and what is the best way to get there, is there a train from amsterdam to alkmaar?

According to Google Maps it is about 50 km by car, (as the bird flies it might well be 40km.)
It can help you to find your road as well.

But the easiest option is the train:

There are 4 direct fast trains each hour, and 2 more connections with just one change.
The direct trains take 37 or 40 minutes.

So just go to the station, take €6.40 in coins and get a one way ticket from the machine, or € 11.70 for a same day return.
At the ticket window you might need to pay a little more.

The best way to reach Alkmaar from Amsterdam is by train. It probably is a 30 - 40 minute train ride, depending, of course, if it is a speed train or if it stops at every town in between. Veel plezier.
