My son and I want to grow pumpkins next year. When is the best time to start sowing seeds for halloween harvest? Also, do you get more than one pumpkin from a seed on the vine? Thanks

Pumpkins have a growth time of 120 days. Plan for the beginning of June for planting to begin ripening the beginning of October. Green unripe pumpkins can also be ripenend by keeping them in the sun.

It depends upon where you live. In California, we put them in the garden when the soil begins to warm up; around the middle of May. You can start them in the house about a month before you wish to plant them out in the garden bed. Then transplant the seedling to the garden soil when it warms up.

Yes, most vines will produce several pumpkins.

Start them inside about a month before the last frost in your area. Put them outside will all danger of frost is gone. They will not tolerate any frost. They can be put out early and covered at night but if you miss one night they will not survive even a mild frost.
